A good way to work with students with Anxiety.

Published by Krystal on

Anxiety is the feeling of worry, nervousness or restlessness. When students are anxious, it affects their daily performance at home and in school. They will not be able to function properly as it will be hard for them to concentrate to complete any school assignments or home duties.

What I like to do to support my students with Anxiety is work with them in a small group. In this group, we discuss what Anxiety is, talk about what makes them anxious and discuss ways to deal with it. This can be a lot of information so to make it simple, I usually read them a story called, “How to Tame My Anxiety Monster, or show them the video.

The Anxiety Monster is a story about a little boy that has anxiety. His anxiety visits him throughout the day. The boy decides to talk to his parents about it and learns that his mom experiences the same feeling. He then learns different ways to train or cope with his anxiety monster when it comes. He also learns the reason why his anxiety monster visits him.

If you don’t have a hard copy of the book, show your students the video below.

After reading the story or showing my students the video, I will either let my students draw their own Anxiety Monster and write inside of the monster what worries them or give them a copy of the form below.

If you would like a copy of the activity sheet, click on the link below to download your free copy!

After the lesson, I will have students share, if they would like to, their monster and how they plan to tame it. My students really enjoy this part of the lesson because they get to see what makes other people anxious and realize that they are not alone.

How do you teach your students about Anxiety? I would love to hear from you!
